5 BUDGET-PROOF TIPS TO SAVE WATER AT HOME
How to save water without spending money
Fun nights often end with filthy kitchens. Your inner Monica Geller makes sure you rinse the glasses before going to bed, just to give you a head start in the morning. But once the morning comes along – too early, we feel you – you find out you left the tap running. Ouch. Time for some water-saving tips that help you gain money!
1. Turn off the tap
It almost sounds too obvious to mention but turning off the tap means no water comes out. Of course, you’ve grasped that before, but do you also think about it when washing your hands or brushing your teeth? Small efforts make the biggest difference in the long run.
2. Don’t use water if you don’t have to
Instead of rinsing your plates after dinner, try scraping them. It saves you water and the drain will thank you for it too.
3. Every drop counts
Next time while you wait for the shower to be hot enough, try capturing the water while it heats up. It’s perfectly clean water otherwise instantly led to the sewer. Use the captured water to wash the car or water the plants.
4. Take a shower, not a bath
We agree that a bath is the best way to relax after a very long, hard day at work. Sadly, we can’t deny it’s a large consumer of water. Try switching up your bath with (short) showers to keep your water spending down.
5. Eat less meat
This one may come as a surprise, but the meat industry is the most water-consuming branch of the food industry. You don’t have to take a drastic decision of giving up meat forever: if you only eat one meat-free meal a week, you’ll save the planet almost 60,000 liters of water every month. And that’s just you!
You won’t see this water-saving trick ending up on your monthly bill, but see it as a thank you gift to the environment.
Love Home Fabrics’ water-saving plan
In May 2019, we launched Act for Home Textiles, a sustainable project for all companies inside our group. All efforts they make result in big yearly savings for energy, CO2 production and water.
In one year, our companies together:
- Save 25 million liters of water. That’s the same as 1.9 million toilet flushes
- Produce 1,320 tonnes of yarn without water. That weighs the same as 6 Statues of Liberty
- Purify 140 million liters of water. That equals 27 years of leaving the tap running
Several of our collections also wear the Act for Home Textiles label because of their sustainable features such as recyclability and alternate dyeing processes.
